Mahoora Camping in Yala National Park is a unique camping experience located just outside the park entrance in a semi wilderness forest. Whereas most hotels are close to the Palatuphana entrance, Mahoora is located close to the Katagamuwa entrance. This means far less congestion at the beginning or end of a safari. The tents are spread out and are illuminated with lanterns at night.
A very experienced and enthusiastic team runs Mahoora Camping, which includes two jeep safaris through the park. There are two game drives per day: the morning safari is between 6.00 am and 10.00 am and the afternoon safari is between 3.00 pm and 6.00 pm (please note unlimited safaris can be arranged on request for photography purposes, at an additional charge). We offer two packages with Mahoora Camping in Yala National Park but recommend Mahoora Elite if your budget stretches to it. Despite being promoted as luxury camping, we feel the tents are very simple. It’s important to note that Mahoora Camping is very simple and basic and generally does not compare to the luxuries often found in Africa. Despite this we feel Mahoora offers an experience unparalleled in the area and is something truly unique.
