Set in luscious tropical gardens just 30-45 minutes from Kandy, Ellerton offers a little slice of plantation life. The main bungalow was built for the manager of a large tea estate over 100 years ago; today it is owned by Cary and Richard Goode, who have turned it into lovely and traditional boutique hotel. It’s overwhelmingly charming and very idyllic and the location makes it ideal for those wanting to visit Kandy and its surroundings. It’s also a perfect relaxing retreat, with a swimming pool and plenty of shady spots perfect for reading and snoozing.
There are eight rooms at Ellerton, which are divided between The Main House and The Valley House. There are also newer and separate Garden Rooms. The Main House has three main guest bedrooms (two doubles and one twin); these are arguably the most characterful and charming. The Valley House is a separate building altogether, which sits beside the pool. There are three spacious en-suite rooms here, which have glorious valley views. These are more contemporary, with polished concrete interiors and modern bathrooms. The newest additions are the Garden Rooms; each offers a beautiful self-contained bedroom with its own private sitting area, bathroom, and balcony. All rooms are priced the same, and it’s not possible to book a specific room, although we, and Ellerton, do our best to ensure you get the room you would like.
